Bacterial vaginosis or yeast infection?

Distinguishing between bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection is not easy – some of the symptoms are very similar. Typical symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are a ‘fishy’ smell and an increased discharge, often accompanied by itching and burning. A yeast infection, by contrast, is often characterised by itching and a thick, white discharge. There may also be redness or swelling. More than 60% of vaginal problems are caused by a bacterial infection. Yeast infections are responsible for 25%. The remaining 15% are caused by a combination of the two, or the cause is unclear.

Unpleasant odour?

Every woman has her own individual smell – and that goes for her intimate area too. Distinguishing between a normal odour and an abnormal, disease-related odour can be difficult. If the odour is perceived as unpleasant, this can be a serious problem for the person affected. With an infection such as bacterial vaginosis, however, there is an unmistakable ‘fishy’ smell. A change in discharge accompanied by itching and burning is also an indication that something is wrong. In this situation, Gynofit Lactic Acid Vaginal Gel can help get the vaginal environment back to normal. The hygienic single-use applicator delivers the gel right where it’s needed. The gel sticks to the lining of the vagina and balances the vaginal flora.

Intimate odour, itching or burning after sex?

Semen has to be naturally alkaline to neutralise the acidic vaginal environment. As a result, there is a temporary shift in pH after sex. This makes life easier for bacteria, and the vagina becomes more susceptible to infections and symptoms such as an unpleasant smell, burning or itching. Harness the benefits of Gynofit Lactic Acid Vaginal Gel. Use it for prevention, or after sex, to help maintain the natural balance of your vagina.
